The Ski Community

Sorry I am a day late with blogging! I am now on a family vacation on Cape Cod and have limited Internet access.I have just concluded my last week in Park City, Utah and now I am back at home in Boston! I must say that my 6 weeks out in Park City could not have been better! I am constantly impressed by how generous and accepting the ski community is. I have been around the Nordic community for a long time, but I never had the chance to see the alpine, free skiing, and snowboarding communities. Since I participated in many sports when I was younger, I have seen the different sport communities, but none is like the ski community. Everyone is so active, driven, enthusiastic, happy, and generous. I have made many new friends over the past 6 weeks who showed me the ins and outs of Park City.IMG_4379IMG_4389I was fortunate enough to have had 3 different host families that were all wonderful! They took me tubing, brought me to outdoor concerts, and included me in many other exciting activities, so thank you to my host families!I wanted to give a HUGE thank you to my coaches, host families, PT’S, strength coaches, COE staff, new friends, and family for making it such successful experience and rehab out in Park City! :)This week was another exciting week because I got to go outside a lot more often for workouts! I rollerskied outside for 2 short sessions of double pole! I also had a few bike sessions outside which I really  enjoyed.Screen Shot 2015-08-11 at 1.47.57 PM Screen Shot 2015-08-11 at 1.48.48 PMIMG_4393IMG_4376I said my goodbyes to everyone on Friday and Saturday. I was sad to leave but I was excited to see my family and friends at home! During my one day at home, I was able to see my surgeon for a follow up. I am finally cleared for all exercise in moderation on the compartment injury side of things, but I am still figuring out some other leg/foot pain I have had. I received a cortisone shot and hopefully I will be healthy very soon!!!Now I am on a family vacation for two weeks on Cape Cod! It will be a good time to catch up with my family and to rest and relax on the beach from the training I have been doing.IMG_4427IMG_4425IMG_4423-JKern
